T
hree days of tournament golf at
three championship courses in
the Coachella Valley sounds
about as good as it gets, and 60 golfers
got to enjoy just that by playing in the
annual Desert Two-Ball Challenge
April 20-22.
Two-player teams competed in a Fri-
day scramble at the Westin Mission
Hills Gary Player Course, followed by a
better-ball format Saturday at Classic
Club and a shamble Sunday on the
Players Course at Indian Wells Golf
Resort.
Jeffrey howard and gregory snider
won the gross competition, shooting
196 (66-68-62) to win by a wide five-
stroke margin.
Perhaps even more impressive was
that their Sunday score of 10-under par
was six shots lower than any other
carded that day, giving them plenty of
cushion as they played the final few
holes.
The team of Todd volkers and cole
volkers – second in gross scoring with
rounds of 65, 68 and 68 for a three-day
total of 201 – secured the net champi-
onship.
Both winning teams, as well as
those that placed second and third in
the gross and net scoring, received
great prizes that included golf two-
somes at each of the three courses, a
two-night stay in Indian Wells and
dinner at each of the course's fine-
dining restaurants.
