n SANDPINES CHOSEN AS SITE OF TOP NATIONAL JUNIOR EVENT

ust before heading back to school after summer break, some of the top
junior golfers in the country will make a stop at Sandpines Golf Links for
a major test on the Rees Jones-designed layout. The reason? The Florence,
Oregon, course was recently selected to host the 62nd Junior Girls' and 63rd
Junior Boys' Amateur Championships, which will take place August 14-18.
Nestled amid wind-swept sand dunes and towering pines, the 7,190-yard,
par-72 layout will provide a challenging test for the 144 junior golfers com-
peting in the championship, which was once won on the boys' side by Fred
Couples in 1976.
