"The opportunity to golf at a private and exclusive club can be much more appealing and increase your total player field," said Anna Dukeart, Private Event Sales Manager at The Oregon Golf Club. "The likelihood of attracting higher- quality players and serious donors is greater when the event is held at a private club." Not only will that exclusivity benefit attract a better field of players, but it will most likely draw golfers that are more interested in the private club lifestyle, which in turn can increase your fundraising efforts. "Private clubs are typically private for a reason," said Tyson Johnson, Regional Director of Sales at American Golf. "All the amenities, from the golf course to the banquet hall, should be more upscale than at a public course. These luxuries also typically come with an increase in tournament costs, but the draw of being able to play a course otherwise inaccessible can be very attractive. If the majority of your attendees are serious golfers, they will be drawn to that exclusive experience." Private clubs also are a valuable network in and of themselves, with members that know each other well and want to be involved in club happenings. So if tournament organizers host a charity tournament at a private club, there will most likely be natural marketing and communication that occurs through that network, even if members were not previously familiar with the charity. As an extension of that, many private clubs are active online, with a team dedicated to sharing upcoming events through social media, newsletters, and the like. "A private club will help you market your tournament," said Redheffer, "by placing it on their own social media outlets where it is available to their members. This will help your event's exposure, cause, and attendance."
