T
here's nothing quite
like summer in San
Diego, with its
combination of endless
sunshine and ideal
temperatures found in few
other places in the world. For
golfers, summer is the perfect
time to get out to the course at
first light, stay until the sun
goes down, and take
advantage of the opportunity
to spend more time enjoying
the game they love.
"The summers in San Diego
carry their own mindset," said
Chris Gilfillen, General
Manager at Chula Vista Golf
Course and Regional Manager
for American Golf's six
courses in the county. "The
golf community carries the
same laid-back feeling you
find at our beautiful beaches."
Helping golfers capitalize
on these conditions, American
Golf has brought back The
Players Club membership for
a second year, with nearly
40,000 golfers already signed
up to enjoy the benefits.
With the program, golfers
receive two large buckets of
range balls each day, free
Green Fees after 3 or 4 p.m.
(with $10 cart rental),
discounted rates earlier in the
day, and free lessons.
Membership is $39.99 per
month at Mission Trails Golf
Course in San Diego and The
Vineyard at Escondido, and
$29.99 at Chula Vista Golf
Course in Bonita, National City
Golf Course in National City
and Tecolote Canyon Golf
Course in San Diego.
Membership at Lomas Santa Fe
Executive Golf Course in
Solana Beach is $19.99 and
doesn't include range balls.
Gilfillen said some members
head to the course before work
for the free range balls, while
others regularly squeeze in an
afternoon nine or even 18,
taking advantage of the late
sunsets and ideal weather.
Free lessons offer an incentive
for new golfers to improve
and for experienced players to
fine tune their games.
"Golfers see the value in it,
and it's come a long way since
its inception," Gilfillen said of
The Players Club. "Our goal
has always been to make it
better for the golfer."
