OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x SPRING 2016 x obsports.com l DESTINATIONS NEWPORT, OREGON COURSE: SANDPINES GOLF LINKS BREWER: ROGUE BREWERY L ocated on the stunning Oregon Coast about two-and-a-half hours south of Portland, Newport is home to one of the most distinctive breweries in the world: Rogue Brewery, which is known for its in- credible array of beers in wildly colorful bot- tles with equally colorful names, such as Dead Guy Ale, Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout, and Wasted Sea Star Purple Ale. It also offers craft spirits and ciders and farm tours of the sites where their materials are grown. About an hour from the brewery to the south is Sandpines Golf Links, located amid the Oregon Dunes. The combination of wind- swept sand dunes and the always-fluctuating coastal weather makes the Reese Jones-de- signed course a quintessential Northwestern American links track, at least on the inward nine. The outward nine is set amid pines and lakes, and wildlife is abundant, ranging from deer and bald eagles to blue herons and even the infrequent black bear. >>>
