First Tee – Coachella Valley Magazine • Summer 2023 • 5 Home Base Updates: Programming at The Golf Center FTCV is privileged to consider The Golf Center as our "home base," providing us nearly unrestricted access to create unique program- ming that most chapters only as- pire to achieve. This strategic partnership with Landmark Golf Management al- lows us to utilize the driving range, practice areas, and golf course to offer most-of-the-year program- ming, upon which families can rely. Yet, our growth calls for more, leading FTCV to announce two additional sessions to offer year-around programming for the first time! uuu 2023 Back to School Session: August 6-September 16 This session will mirror our normal 6-Week Session Format. Age-based programming will be offered throughout the week at The Golf Center, where participants will work on First Tee Key Commit- ments that are reinforced through engaging and fun golf activities. Weekday classes will be offered toward the early evening time to give the late summer temperatures time to cool down. Saturday morning classes will also be offered for certain age groups. uuu 2023 4-Week Golf Skills Session: September 25-October 21 With the decision made by The Golf Center to keep the driving range open year-around, this has provided FTCV the opportunity to create a brand new golf skills session. This four-week session will focus mainly on developing and reinforcing golf skills for the participants. These golf skills will serve them throughout the year in all our ses- sions, camps, and competitive op- portunities. uuu Reinforcing Ties: Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort, The Lights at Indio, and Mission Lakes Country Club FTCV also wants to take a mo- ment to thank our other two main program locations, Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort and The Lights at Indio. These program locations have also been critical in introducing our program to West Valley and East Valley kids. This past Spring, Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs came on board as a program loca- tion, and we are excited to grow the relationship and introduce even more kids to First Tee – Coachella Valley. Final Thoughts I wouldn't be doing the First Tee – Coachella Valley family justice without acknowledging that all of our successes wouldn't have been achieved without the guidance, support, and energy Teal Guion brought as our Executive Director the last three years. Every time she was asked to make a decision, her first question was, "Does this posi- tively impact our participants?" I am proud to say to Teal, the answer is 'Yes,' every decision you made positively affected the participants, their families, and the chapter. And though we are sad to see you go, we are excited that the decisions you make moving forward will pos- itively impact participants of the 25 chapters you will be overseeing. We love you, Teal, and wish you the best! I hope everyone has a wonderful summer, filled with adventures, va- cations, laughs, good food, great golf and as many Peanut Butter Cups as your family can indulge in. – Best, Coach Kyle Former Executive Director Teal Guion (right).
