l TRAVEL OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x SUMMER 2018 x obsports.com Fought design and farm-themed setting that has become a favorite for weddings, events and golf tournaments. Across the street, you'll find Charbon- neau Golf Club, named 2017 Golf Course of the Year by the Oregon Golf Association, that provides a 27-hole executive-style ex- perience, which is great for seniors, juniors and anyone looking for a quick nine. We then manage two David McLay Kidd-designed properties at Gamble Sands in Brewster, Washington, and Teth- erow in Bend, Oregon – each offering a completely different desert experience. These two championship courses are visu- ally breathtaking, offer incredi- ble lodging and are ranked highly among their peer prop- erties. Each boast a long list of accolades. Florence Golf Links, for- merly known as Sandpines, is celebrating its 25th year with a new owner, new name and course and clubhouse improvements. This well-respected property is definitely worth the one-hour journey west off I-5. All in all, the diversity found in OB Sports' Northwest clubs is drastic in con- cept, climate and design – each special and unique in its identity and vision. u u u What is one thing about golf in the region that most visitors would not be aware of? That people can play year- round and the extensive variation of envi- ronments in Western Washington and Oregon to that of the eastern part of those states. The cascade range that runs north and south through both creates a distinct setting on each side. From mature-growth forests to the west and desert and rolling hills to the east; both beautiful but drasti- cally different in the matter of 50 miles. u u u What advice do you have for some- one planning a golf trip to the Pacific Northwest? Summers are spectacular. Come in late August or early September as weather remains strong, leaves are chang- ing and fairways can be less crowded after Labor Day. u u u What is your fondest memory on the golf course? Growing up playing all day, every day as a kid with my brother, who is the GM at Glendale Country Club in Belle- vue, Washington. One of my most enjoy- able rounds in recent years came at the opening of Gamble Sands, where I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to participate in the event. Being with friends on such an incredible property was one of those days where everything was perfect – the venue, the setting, the weather, the people, the course and even my game showed up on a few holes.
