olfers clamoring for the newest premium,
high-performance ball from Titleist are now
able to put it in play as the company
launched the AVX model nationwide on May 2. It
had previously been available to test markets in Cali-
fornia, Arizona and Florida, and due to overwhelm-
ingly positive response, manufacturing was
accelerated to meet demand.
"In the test marketing, I heard a lot of similar feed-
back to what golfers across the rest of the country are
saying now," said Troy Denslow, Titleist's Sales Di-
rector for the Southwest region. "We wanted to see
how consumers would experience the performance
from tee to green and determine whether they agreed
with us that the premium price was justified by the
high-end performance. Golfers are all saying
the same things – 98 percent of them are ex-
periencing longer distance off the tee, and
with their irons some of them are seeing the
ball travel almost a full club longer."
The Titleist AVX is considered an alterna-
tive to the extremely popular Pro V1 and
Pro V1x balls.
Its soft compression core reduces spin on longer
shots while maintaining ball speed, and the propri-
etary GRN41 cover allows for increased spin and
control around the greens. In short, the AVX should
appeal to golfers who desire longer distance and
softer feel, but don't want to sacrifice being able to
spin the ball on approach shots.
There is also a yellow option in the AVX.
"The people who have experienced it and have
made it their most often-played ball have been
telling us that they went with it because it offers re-
ally long distance with softer feel and lower spin,"
Denslow said. "Golfers have told us that its perform-
ance and preference characteristics – feel, spin, dis-
tance and even look – give it a place of its own in the
marketplace."
