XXIO X
A 10 IN THE
MAKING
I
t's no secret that the
high-end golf clubs
from XXIO have devel-
oped an extremely loyal
fan base since first
launching 17 years ago
and being introduced to
the U.S. market earlier this
decade. So loyalists will
undoubtedly have been chomping at the bit in anticipation of the December 9 na-
tionwide release of the brand's 10th generation XXIO X line.
Just like previous iterations, the line features drivers, fairways woods, hybrids and
irons – as well as ladies' versions – and is designed to add speed and power for play-
ers with moderate swing speeds. There are also plenty of new technological im-
provements with XXIO X. All the clubs in the line feature True
Focus Impact Technology, which combines a high-energy impact
head, a smart impact shaft and a low swing lie design that's also
lightweight.
"When you put all these factors together, you get a club that's
easier to swing and will give you more distance while allowing
you to hit the ball straighter and higher," said Zack Oakley, a prod-
uct manager for golf clubs with XXIO, Cleveland and Srixon.
In the heads, the COR has been expanded to be higher on parts of the club face
where golfers make impact most often. The smart impact shafts are designed with
increased flex in the grip end to decrease the imbalance that can lead to inconsis-
tency, promoting longer and straighter shots.

W
ilson broke the mold with its
super low-compression Duo
Soft golf balls, and the com-
pany recently released four new models
– the Duo Soft, Women's Duo Soft, Duo
Soft Spin and Duo Soft Optix.
Three of the models feature Wilson's
ground-breaking 29 compression, while
the Duo Soft Spin model compresses at
40, still providing a softer feel than most
other balls on the market while adding
exceptional spin. Additionally, the Optix
ball comes in green, yellow, orange and
pink with a matte finish.
"The new Duo, being a two-piece ball
with a little more rubber in the core and a
slightly different dimple pattern, will offer
softer feel and better performance," said
Tom Ashton, the general manager at the
Edwin Watts store in Jacksonville, Florida.
"The Spin model is a three-piece ball, so
it's a little higher performance."
Ashton said that the Duo balls shifted
the paradigm in how manufacturers think
about making golf balls, and it's the rare
ball that offers performance benefits for a
wide range of golfers at different ability
levels.
"We have every type of golfer from be-
ginner to expert walk through our doors,
and we've found that the Duo balls are
played across the board," Ashton said. "It
should definitely be in amateurs' bags."
