W
inter weather is coming, and whether you
play golf in sunny Southern California or hit
the links along the windswept shores of Lake
Michigan, the season is bound to bring cold,
wet and windy conditions that can make your round more
challenging. Don't let the weatherman keep you inside,
though. Instead, gather your rain gear, your fleece-lined
khakis and a travel mug filled with piping hot coffee and get
out to embrace what can be an exhilarating time of year to
enjoy the game.

Club in Bend, Oregon – where morning temperatures have
already dipped into the high 20s and frost delays are a com-
mon occurrence – has some advice for playing in all types of
adverse conditions.
TAMING THE WIND When I'm working with my students
on playing in the wind, I get them thinking about taking
more club and hitting more of a three-quarters shot – where
you just use body rotation, keep the ball low and use the
ground to your advantage.
