New golf grips can make all the
difference – here's what you need
to know before you make a change

g
olfers who play regularly should consider re-gripping their
clubs once a year, says Tom McMahon, a club repair specialist
at Van's Golf Shop in Scottsdale, Arizona. Those who play
less frequently can get new grips every three years, though any slick
look or feel is a tell-tale sign that it's time to bring your clubs in.
"The grip is your connection to the golf club, so they're very impor-
tant," McMahon said. "A new set of grips can make your clubs feel
brand new, and as older grips get worn out, it decreases the stability
you have with your clubs. If you're not 100 percent in love with your
clubs, re-gripping can maybe bring back the honeymoon phase."
