YOUR GAME ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 New grips not only give you a bet- ter connection to your golf clubs, but can improve your confidence over the ball as you can trust that your equip- ment will perform the way it's in- tended to. In choosing grips, players with faster swings will want a firmer option to hold the club tightly in place, while those with slower swing swings are best suited to softer grips. Larger grips typically improve a golfer's accuracy, while smaller ones help with dis- tance as the hands activate through the swing faster and add more power. "It's really all about feel – there's no right or wrong," McMahon said. "While there are guidelines that I use, choosing the right grips ultimately comes down to personal preference." Worldwide Golf Shops can typically re-grip a set of clubs on the same day you bring your clubs in, and standard grips – like GolfPride Tour Velvet – will run about $5 per club plus instal- lation. McMahon said his best-selling grips are GolfPride's CP2, which come in Wrap and Pro models, because they offer a combination of comfort and control. McMahon said Winn grips are espe- cially popular in the dry desert region as they are soft and easy on the hands. Lamkin grips, he said, sell well, and SuperStroke, which originally made only putter grips, makes good grips for all the clubs in your bag. McMahon is also a fan of the Japanese brand Iomic, which makes high-quality, long-lasting grips, though at a higher price point than others. If you really don't know what type of grips you want, or want to get a feel for certain grips before making a deci- sion, McMahon suggests getting one club in your set re-gripped and trying it out for a few rounds. And of course, get fitted by a professional. "Do a bit of a trial – put one on your driver or your wedge and see what you think," he said. "It's an invest- ment, so before jumping in with both feet, test the waters." CliCk here to shop our complete selection of golf grips. get a grip!
