A ndrew Knepper may be relatively new to the golf industry, but nevertheless brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to his role at Classic Club. "I would say my main qualification is my passion to make this facility the best it can be," said Knep- per, who was hired in May as Tournament Coordi- nator to oversee events ranging from 12-player outings to 144-person shotgun starts. "I take pride and ownership of my position and want to produce the best possible environment for our guests." We recently caught up with the 36-year-old La Quinta resident to learn more about how he got in- volved in the game, what brought him to Classic Club and what he likes most about his new job. how has your career led you to classic club? I did not enter the golf industry until just a few years ago. Before that, I was managing baseball re- cruiting events in conjunction with Major League Baseball teams as well as managing online baseball recruiting databases for ESPN. This career gave me the organization and event management skills that have translated to a perfect fit at Classic Club. how did you get into the golf industry? I first started working at PGA West in September of 2013 as an Outside Service Supervisor and worked in the golf shop as an Assistant Profes- sional. I then moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where I be- came the Assistant Golf Professional at Pinnacle Peak Country Club. When I saw the position of Tournament Coordinator open up at Classic Club, I knew that this would be a great fit with my previ- ous experience in event management. what's the best part about your new job? Being around guests that are coming from all over the world to play golf at this amazing facility. I find a great passion in talking to people about their experiences and I make extra efforts to ensure their experience at Classic Club is the highlight of their vacation. what might someone be surprised to know about you? I did not start playing golf until I was 22 years old and took up the game to spend more time with my father. what do you like to do when you're not working? I feel that there is a reason that many of us get into the golf industry – my time away from work I am on the golf course! Aside from that, I enjoy visit- ing my hometown of Palos Verdes Estates to play baseball with my nephews. cOMpETITIVE EdgE La Quinta resident Andrew Knepper takes over as Classic Club's Tournament Coordinator MEET ThE TEAM BOOK A TEE TIME New Tournament Coordinator Andrew Knepper. > C L I C K H E R E F O R M O R E I N F O R M AT I O N O N E V E N T S AT C L A S S I C C L U B
