V
isitors to Gamble Sands in Brew-
ster, Washington, will get to
enjoy a spectacular new amenity
starting this season – the massive, ap-
proximately 50,000-square-foot Cas-
cades Putting Course.
Set just outside The Inn at Gamble
Sands and offering breathtaking views
of the Cascades mountain range, it's
meant less as a place to warm up be-
fore a round and more as a gathering
spot to enjoy the surroundings and en-
gage in some friendly competition. The
vibe is enhanced by the hot tub and fire
pit located just off the fringe.
"We see the Cascades Putting
Course as just another way our guests
can relax and unwind, take in the dra-
matic views and enjoy a challenge or
some competition," said General Man-
ager David Christenson. "It's a place to
have fun with your friends and col-
leagues before or after a round."
Among the world's largest greens,
The Cascades is modeled after the
wildly undulating Himalayas Putting
Course at St. Andrews and was de-
signed by Gamble Sands architect
David McLay Kidd. There are seemingly
endless options for setting it up.
"We wanted to make it much more
interesting than your standard putting
green," Kidd said. "This thing is ab-
solutely wild. The hope is that we can
have 18 cups and can change the
course pretty much every day during
the season. It's not meant to replicate
what you'll find on the golf course – it's
meant to be a fun facility that is com-
pletely unique."
The Cascades Putting Course was
seeded last fall, and is expected to be
ready by summer.
