OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x SPRING 2017 x obsports.com l DESTINATIONS Additionally, great care was taken in preserving the natural landscaping as well as the flora that is habitat to more than 70 indigenous birds. All the pro- tected trees on the property, including mahogany, silk cotton and Caribbean pine, were preserved. Measuring 7,189-yards, the par-72 course is the first in the Bahamas de- signed by Nicklaus himself, who has built nearly 300 around the world. It is part of a $4.2 billion integrated resort development. The beachfront destination will ultimately in- clude three world-class hotels, more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges, the largest casino in the Bahamas, and more than 30 luxury retail outlets. Reservations at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar are available for stays beginning May 29. The two other hotels, SLS Baha Mar and Rosewood, will open in fall, 2017, and spring, 2018, respectively. When fully built out, the resort will attract golfers from across the globe, but the golf course is already up and run- ning and receiving robust accolades for its stunning visual layout and challenge, as well as its amenities. The club will offer an extensive forecaddie program through Cad- diemaster, the same company that works with prestigious clubs such as Pebble Beach and Augusta National. Another interesting feature about the course is that different tees are set up every day. Each morning, a member of the professonal staff will determine vari- ous tee locations on the course, taking weather and playing conditions into consideration, to create a unique golfing experience. By utilizing freeform teeing areas rather than traditional tee pods, any hole can be altered by as much as 100 yards from day to day, allowing guests to play multiple variations of the course during their stay while adhering to a similar overall yardage. And don't worry about bringing your own clubs. Golfers can rent the latest equipment from Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, PXG and others. "Before our guests tee off, a member of our golf professional staff will offer a club fitting on our practice range to as- sist in identifying the perfect equipment match – and complete the first step to an unforgettable round," Deiro said. VISIT ROYAL BLUE GOLF CLUB Baha mar's royal Blue golf Club opened for play in late april.
