T
he tastes of the Great
Northwest are headed to
Coachella Valley on Fri-
day, Oct. 21, when world-
renowned north by northwest
wines will be featured in an ex-
clusive five-course dinner at Bel-
latrix Restaurant. As one of the
specialty brands under the King
Estate winery umbrella, North
by Northwest is best known for
capturing the unique terroir of
Oregon and Washington in fruit-
driven, aromatic wines.
"We're thrilled to be partner-
ing with North by Northwest
for this upcoming wine dinner,"
said Charlsie Osborne, Bellatrix
Sales & Catering Manager. "It
will be a fabulous night and
kickoff to the season in the
desert, with high-scoring wines
and fantastic food."
The five wines that will be
paired with each of the courses
are a well-balanced representa-
tion of North by Northwest's of-
ferings, and they're also highly
acclaimed. The 2014 horse
heaven hills riesling, which will
be offered with the passed appe-
tizers of shrimp scampi shooters
and watermelon with blue
cheese, bacon and caramelized
onions, was awarded a Gold
Medal from Sunset Magazine's
Wine Competition, as was the
2012 walla walla cabernet
sauvignon that will be paired
with the second course of herb-
buttered thresher shark.
The 2012 walla walla syrah,
which will accompany the entrée
course of Syrah-braised lamb
shank with roasted garlic
mashed yams, was given 90
points from Wine Spectator this
year. And the 2012 dessert ries-
ling, which will be served with
creamy Danish blue cheese with
grilled stone fruit and toasted
baguette to cap off the evening,
received an Award of Excellence
from the Jefferson Cup Invita-
tional, a select competition out of
Kansas City, Mo. Each wine in its
own right is impressive, and the
winery as a whole is unique and
highly regarded.
"King Estate Winery just cele-
brated its 25th anniversary, and at
just over 1,000 acres, it's the
largest Demeter USA-certified
Biodynamic vineyard in the coun-
try," said Jenny Ulum, Senior Di-
rector of Communications at King
Estate Winery. "With a third gen-
eration of the King family still
active in the business, King Es-
tate remains family-owned and
farmed, dedicated to the highest
standards in winemaking."
