PROFILE G olf has always been a passion for Tyson Johnson. And he'll be the first to admit his good fortune when it comes to his role as a Southern California Regional Director of Sales for American Golf, which he owes to a life-altering decision he made five years ago while living in snow-covered Montana. Now based in sunny Long Beach, Johnson oversees a region that spans from Granada Hills to the Inland Empire and into Orange County. We recently caught up with the 31-year-old to learn about his role in creating successful tournaments at American Golf courses, and how the game has played such an important part of his life. Best part of the job? I get to wake up and talk about golf every day. Regardless of whatever stresses arise, I am still working in an industry I am passionate about, which makes work not really seem like work so much. ••• why should tournament planners consider an american Golf course for their next event? Our operations teams are some the best in the industry to make sure your event is executed flawlessly. That is always a very important aspect of every golf tournament, but we also provide services you will not find at most other facilities. All of our tournament teams not only book your event, but will walk you through the step- by-step process of assuring success. Whether the purpose of your event is to raise funds, host a corporate outing, or just have fun, our teams are experts in detailing what you will need to succeed and how to improve your event year after year. Every course also hosts fundraising seminars annually to teach newcomers and veterans alike how they can raise money or increase their current fundraising. These are completely free and just one of the resources we provide to our tournaments. ••• what's one thing about your job that most people don't know? The level of commitment I have to my clients. The worst thing that can happen is to have a tournament fail in its first few years getting off the ground. With that in mind, I keep myself available at all times to share my knowledge and help any way that I can to make sure these events are successful. ••• what is your motto on the job? Rapid response! Many decisions in the tournament process need to be made in a timely fashion, so I am always sure to respond to clients emails and calls immediately. ••• what is your greatest achievement?
