reasons to be exciteD about the year

W
ith last season's changing of the
guard in terms of the game's su-
perstars, the 2015-'16 PGA Tour
season – which began in earnest
with a Jordan Spieth win at the Hyundai Tourna-
ment of Champions at Kapalua in January – will
be the start of a new era in men's professional
golf. Here's why you should be excited…
>> Golf's new Big Three will be fiercely
competitive and incredibly entertaining.
With Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson on in-
jured reserve or in semi-retirement, the focus re-
sumes on golf's newest Big Three: Jordan Spieth,
Jason Day, and Rory McIlroy, in no particular
order. The label that first attached to Arnold
Palmer, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus is an apt
fit, given how these three have performed in ma-
jors during 2014 and 2015. With Day and McIlroy
coming back healed and rested and Spieth appar-
ently picking up right where he left off, with
strong performances in shoulder season events
such as the Emirates Australian Open and the
Hero World Challenge, look for these remarkable
twenty-somethings to stage epic battles when-
ever they meet.
What's different about this so-called rivalry is
that they're all such nice guys, so well-liked, and
with fan-friendly personalities that don't flame
the passions the way Woods-Mickelson or Nick-
laus-Palmer did. No matter. This year will be dif-
ferent. They'll all remain "aw shucks" in their
modesty and they'll downplay their competitive
