he Pacific Northwest garnered interna-
tional attention in June, when the U.S.
Open was played at Chambers Bay Golf
Course located on Puget Sound, about 60
miles south of Seattle. And while the links-style
track has garnered a majority of the headlines, the
region is actually one of the most diverse golf land-
scapes in the country. Landon Farms Golf Club, lo-
cated in Aurora, Ore., about 20 miles outside of
downtown Portland, is a perfect example.
"It was nice to have a big event like that in the
area," said David Stead, General Manager of Lang-
don Farms. "A lot of locals went out to see it, and it
was an exciting finish and that's always good for
golf. But as a golf fan, I would have preferred to
have showcased the Northwest a little differently.
There is a lot of great golf up here."
The Bob Cupp-John Fought-designed Langdon
Farms, which opened in 1995, used to be a working
farm. And the designers incorporated that theme
into the layout – the eighth hole features a barn
built on the property in 1908 and golfers drive their
carts through it as they approach the green.
"It's a really neat, unique layout and something
we capitalize on a lot and something people com-
ment about," Stead said. "All of our buildings are
