or Octavio Tavizon, no two
days at Chardonnay are ever
the same. In his position as
Restaurant Director, he is in charge
of everything from large golf tour-
nament banquets and wine dinners
to private client lunches. He handles
daily operations, staff development,
product innovation, and, of course,
a great guest experience.
How long have you been working
at Chardonnay?
In my current position, just about
a year and a half. But I was also
here in the late 1990s and early
2000s.
How does it feel to be back near
where you were raised?
The Chardonnay property sits ad-
jacent to some vineyards planted
years ago by my father, so I feel con-
nected to my roots. It's a blessing to
live in an area that has created so
many special memories for me and
my family.
What is your favorite part of
your job?
Creating a great experience for
our guests. The dynamic of our in-
dustry is that it's never the same
thing. Each day brings new chal-
lenges and opportunities.
How did your background and
education prepare you for your po-
sition at Chardonnay?
I've been immersed in the food
and beverage industry since I was
13. I grew up around farmers, chefs,
winemakers, butchers – all of them
added value to my life and my
knowledge. Being the first genera-
tion to graduate from college in my
family gave me the financial and
business background to be success-
ful in my journey.
If you could host any one person
in history at the restaurant or at
an event at Chardonnay, who would
it be?
My grandfather Octaviano. I was
2 years old when he passed. He
raised a great man in my father,
who is my idol and a great viticul-
turist with a lot of history in Napa
Valley.
What do you love most about
Chardonnay Golf Club?
The property has provided me
many opportunities and great rela-
tionships that I cherish to this day.
