Phil Green was
enshrined in November
into the Arizona Golf Hall
of Fame. The question
those who know him best
were probably asking isn't
why was he inducted, but
why it took so long?
Green, 57, has spent
more than three decades
working in the golf indus-
try in the state, a big rea-
son why he was one of
four people inducted into
the Hall – which is ad-
ministered by the Arizona
Golf Association – during
a ceremony Nov. 24 at
Gainey Ranch Golf Club
in Scottsdale.
"This is truly an honor,"
Green said. "Being a third-
generation Arizonan I
have seen tremendous
changes in golf in our
great state. And to be one
of the people who had a
hand in that is very spe-
cial. Being recognized in
one of the very best golf
destinations in America is
exciting and I am proud
to be part of the Arizona
golf community."
Born and raised in Saf-
ford, Green played golf at
Mesa Community Col-
lege, and studied busi-
ness at Grand Canyon
University and Arizona
State University. He
landed his first job in the
bag room at Orange Tree
Golf Club in 1979 and
became a PGA of Am-
erica member in 1985.
He spent more than 15
years involved in the
Southwest Section PGA,
serving as vice-president
and president, and was
named its Professional of
the Year in 1994.
He was inducted into
the Southwest Section's
Hall of Fame in 2013.
While his involvement
with the PGA's Southwest
Section has been constant,
since 1995 Green has been
involved with Scottsdale-
based OB Sports Golf
Management, and is cur-
rently its Chief Operating
Officer overseeing all of
its corporate affairs.
"I don't think there is
one particular thing that
put him in the Hall of
Fame, but a combination
of everything he's done,"
said Lorraine Thies, As-
sistant Executive Director
of the Arizona Golf Asso-
ciation. "He's looked at as
an industry leader and
he's been very instrumen-
tal in growing the game
of golf in the state."
