Sands opened
late last summer, the
owners and operators
felt they had some-
thing special going
on. The location,
on 700 acres of
land at the base of
the Cascade Moun-
tains in Brewster,
Wash., and the archi-
tect, David McLay
Kidd, were just two of
its main selling points.
It didn't take long for
a major honor to come:
Golf Digest named the
links track the top new
course of 2014 in its
November issue.
Hailed for its pristine
location atop a treeless
plateau overlooking
the Columbia River
Valley, as well as its
playability, the maga-
zine focused mostly
on just how fun the
course is to play.
"It has moments of
hit and giggle, of run-
ning to the crest of a
hill to see where you
went, of watching a
ball trundle sideways
down a slope, nearly
always without con-
cern that disaster
awaits," the article
said. "This isn't Golf
for Dummies, it's Golf
for Ordinary Golfers,
for those who play ex-
pecting pleasure, not
penance."
General Manager
David Christenson
couldn't agree more.
"I can't tell you how
many people come off
the course after playing
and want to get right
back on it again," he
said. "There's plenty of
challenge but, really,
it's just fun. We knew
we had a pretty special
course, but it's always a
delightful surprise to be
recognized like that."

CATCHING UP WITH NFL
RECEIVER MICHAEL FLOYD
M
ichael Floyd is more than an NFL
wide receiver for the
Arizona Cardi-
nals – he's also an avid golfer who's admit-
tedly addicted to the game.
We caught up with him after a recent
round to ask a few questions…
Why do you play golf? It's a good way for
me to relax while still being active. Football
can be a stressful job, hanging out with my
friends on the golf course is my way
of relaxing. I am also a very com-
petitive person. When I first
started playing I was really bad, so
it motivated me to get better.
How long have you been play-
ing? This was my second summer. I
got my own set of clubs last year and
since then I've been addicted to the game.
How often do you play? I try to play 3-4
times a week in the off-season. The good
part about living in Arizona is that I can
play year-round.
What is your average score? I improved
my game a lot this summer, I would say my
average is between 95-100. I think I should
break 100 every time I play now.
How many players on the team play? A
decent amount of guys play. Carson
[Palmer] is probably the best on our team. I
usually play with WR Brittan Golden.
