efore the rise of golf discount
stores and the Internet, most
golfers purchased their clubs
and golf apparel from green grass
golf shops. Chardonnay Golf Club
has brought some of that personal
service and experience back to the
game of golf in its own shop.
"It's an old-school type of golf
shop that offers a lot of variety," said
Head Golf Professional Bob Becker.
"We have different themes through-
out the year – whether it's the Mas-
ters or U.S. Open – and we just really
try to merchandise some of these
themes to make it a fun place for
golfers to shop."
That said, even a fun place to shop
still needs to be competitive with its
pricing in today's market.
"We understand that there is a
volume discount with the larger golf
stores," Becker says. "But even if we
can't match it we still can come close,
and our service will be unmatched."
That's because one thing the
Chardonnay golf shop can offer is
service and expertise.
"If we don't have what you're
looking for, we can order it and ship
it directly to your house," Becker
pointed out. "We're there for you
through the whole process."
This type of personalized service
also pertains to club fitting.
"We do our own club fitting and
it's a little old-school the way club fit-
ting used to be in that it's like you're
getting a lesson," Becker said. "We
work specifically with your swing."
And while the shop offers a wide
variety of merchandise and premium
brands, it is a signature Titleist shop
stocked with the company's best
products.
A new line of apparel in the shop is
"Full Turn Direct," which is a private
label with the Chardonnay logo em-
broidered on the shirt.
"That line, which would be a typi-
cal $90 golf polo, can get down to
around the $49 range," Becker said.
"We have that for men and women."
