SHORT & SWEET
T
hough it may be short in
yardage, Lomas Santa Fe
Executive Golf Course
comes up huge in other areas.
Much of that has to do with
the fact the 18-hole, 2,404-yard
course is right next to the
Lomas Santa Fe Coun-
try Club, a private
facility.
"The course is open
to their members and a
lot of them like to come
here and work on their short
game," said General Manager
Greg Zweibel. "So we like to
keep the course conditions sim-
ilar. It's always in great shape
and the length makes it very
suitable for juniors, as well as
for those who want a course
that is challenging for their
short game."
Scenery is another advan-
tage. The course is located just
a mile from the beach and the
combination of cool ocean
breezes and ocean views
from several of the holes
makes it particularly
ideal when inland areas
of San Diego County
warm up.
The course really caters to
both juniors and seniors. It
works with many of San Diego
County's junior golf programs
and is part of the Callaway Jun-
ior World Golf Championships,
hosting the 9-and-10-year-old
girls field each year.
"We have junior and senior
rates every day of the week,"
Zweibel said. "It's a really fun
course and while it's challeng-
ing, it doesn't leave anyone
feeling miserable."
The longest hole is 270 yards,
with the majority in the 100- to
160-yard range.
"It's just a great little north
county course in a wonderful
community, Solano Beach,"
Zweibel said.
And if you want a notable
recommendation, how about
Phil Mickelson, who used to
bring his children there when
they were learning the game,
Zweibel said.
