UPCOMING EVENTS C lassic Club has had a productive summer, emerg- ing more vibrant and thriving after an eight- week aeration process and summer closure that ended on September 1. "We are in excellent con- dition right now, leading up to the overseed," Spannaus said. "All golfing surfaces are in top-notch shape. This is the finest I've seen the course in September." Classic Club is now prepar- ing to embrace the winter season and will close again October 9 through November 9 for overseeding. The first day back open is November 10. The agronomy team will use Poa trivialis, a rough bluegrass, to overseed the greens, while perennial rye- grass will be used on the tees, fairways, and roughs. The choice of the grass va- rieties is not arbitrary. As they're cool-season grass species, they're perfectly suited for winter conditions with their rapid germination (typically between 5-7 days) and quick maturity time of around two months. Another appreciable fea- ture is their vertical growth – a trait highly beneficial for players. "These grass types allow the golf ball to 'sit up' on the turf, making it much easier for the average golfer to get a clean impact on the ball," Spannaus said. Thus, as fall rolls in, Classic Club will be steadfastly pre- paring for the golfing season ahead, ensuring the course continues to deliver an un- matched golfing experience.
