GOING WITH THE FLOW
How to become more athletic during your pre-shot routine • By David Curtis, PGA Teaching Professional
T
here is no doubt about it, the golf
swing is an athletic action. And
creating a little movement in your
pre-shot routine can help make your
swing more athletic.
Think about how this applies to other
sports. Before shooting a basketball,
throwing a baseball, or swinging a racket
or bat, you are preparing your body to
make an athletic movement. For
example, the feet are creating pressure
with each other by rocking back and
forth; the body follows the pressure in
the feet; then you make an action.
I have yet to witness an athlete stay
completely still before the action is made.
The goal with the golf swing is to
create a flow in your pre-shot routine to
get yourself ready to be athletic in the
motion. Having a little pressure move in
your feet or waggling the club head
before you swing will help. In this video,
I demonstrate a pre-shot movement that
works for me each time I hit a shot.
Give it a try on the range to see if it
works for you.
