FROM DAWN TO DUSK Desert Members compete in unique two-day team play event T he sun has set on the second annual Sunrise Sunset Desert Member Classic – and six teams were able to rise to the occasion. Open to those in the Desert Membership, a special membership category that provides preferential access to all nine courses at The Club at PGA WEST and at The Citrus Club, the tournament was a smashing success. The Sunrise Sunset Desert Member Classic consists of two separate events. One event was contested the morning of February 27 at The Citrus Club – the Sunrise – and the other event took place the following Sunday, March 6, in the afternoon – the Sunset – at the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST. The Citrus Club Sunrise event attracted 33 players and featured a Stableford format, while the Palmer Private Course Sunset event drew 42 players to compete in a Shamble format. At the Sunrise event, the team of Michael and Burke Hallerud, Maureen and Craig Johnson, and Julie Johnson took first-place honors with 84 points to edge out the squad made up of Anne and Burda Stark, Adam and Betsy Dix and Jeff Burda. At the Sunset event, first-place net went to Tom and Jo Knight and Art and Sandy Antony with a score of 19-under-par 53. Second-place net went to Robert and Judie Chinskey and James Leal, at 15- under-par 57, while third-place net went to John and Melissa Ehren and David Smith and Nancy Pointer, also with 15-under-par 57. ..................................................................... > CLICK HERE for more on the Desert Membership.
