Conditions are stellar following summer work
T
he golf course reopened on September 1 after aerifica-
tion this summer, and the results are in: It looks great!
"We're in really good shape after our summer clo-
sure," said Director of Agronomy Tony Spannaus. "We got
through aerification and everything healed in very nicely.
The greens, tees, fairways and roughs are in top condition."
The aerification process helps improve the soil and turf in
many ways, Spannaus added, and is one of the maintenance
practices at Classic Club that help keep the golf course in
Tour-like condition. The process eliminates the accumulation
of thatch, allowing better water infiltration and much-
needed oxygen into the soil.
"This is all about building a better soil profile which in
turn, makes a stronger, healthier plant and thicker stand of
turf," Spannaus said.
Aside from aerification, other maintenance on the course
this summer included sod work and improving drainage in
several areas to help maintain the stellar conditions that
Classic Club is known for.
Golfers should take advantage of the verdant fairways and
greens now, Spannaus said, as Classic Club will soon begin
overseeding to get the course ready for winter.
