GAME IMPROVEMENT
attached it to his putter, and meas-
ured how much the putter moved in-
side at different distances from the
ball, while keeping the line of the
laser on the target line.
Trolio gave the measurements to
company COO Dave Hamilton, an
Old Waverly member, who passed
them along to his son Joey, a me-
chanical engineer.
The next day, Joey came back with
the math of The Putting Arc by de-
termining that the putter was mov-
ing on a large circle, tilted on
an inclined plane – or, an el-
lipse, the conic formula of
which was first docu-
mented by Apollonius of
Perga some 2,200 years ago.
Joey and Dave set out and
created the first Putting Arc.
Since 2003, the full line has ex-
panded to include the MSIII, the
double-sided MS-3D, the T3, the Arc
Glider, the toe-arc T4, the Folding
Arc Mirror, the Putting Practice Kit
and Alignment Mat.
"By using any one of the different
models of The Putting Arc, golfers
can learn the on-plane, arc-type put-
ting stroke of the modern touring
pro," Dave Hamilton said. "This can
be done at home, and a few minutes
every day will soon produce measur-
able benefits."
All of The Putting Arc products
can be easily used indoors on a suit-
able putting surface or outdoors on a
putting green. The smaller versions
(T3 and T4) are also light and will fit
in the side pocket of a golf bag.
"Half of the strokes on a golf
course are taken on the putting
green, so any improvements in put-
ting will provide immediate and
obvious benefits to a golfer's scor-
ing," Dave Hamilton said. "With
over 1,500 tour wins since 2002, The
Putting Arc has proven that it will
help a golfer's putting. If it can help
a touring pro, just imagine how
much more it can help the average
golfer."
