GAME IMPROVEMENT AHEAD OF THE CURVE The Putting Arc training aids rely on mathematical formula to help golfers on the greens F or kids who think they'll never use the math they learn in high school, they should consider the story of The Putting Arc. Applying a mathematical formula from more than two thousand years ago to the mod- ern-day putting stroke led to the creation of The Putting Arc, one of the game's most-used putting training aids, according to a survey of the top teaching professionals in the U.S. by the Golf Range Association of America. The story goes something like this: In the fall of 2001, V.J. Trolio, a young assis- tant pro at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, the state where the com- pany is based, noticed on TV that PGA Tour pro Jay Haas' putting stroke moved slightly inside on the back stroke and then back inside on the follow through.
