DESTINATIONS SAND VALLEY THE SEEDS HAVE BEEN PLANTED FOR GREAT GOLF IN CENTRAL WISCONSIN W hile it doesn't have the track record of the other destinations on this list, Sand Valley is the first course in an area in central Wisconsin that will eventually fea- ture multiple golf courses. Developed by Mike Keiser, who also built Bandon Dunes and a knockout facility in Nova Scotia, Sand Valley is designed for walkers and the course blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Once the site of planted trees in rows used in the paper mill industry, the land is reverting back to its original ecosystem, which the ecologist hired to oversee its restoration calls a "kind of sand barrens-oak-savanna-sand prairie continuum." The Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore-designed course opened in 2017 and immediately vaulted to the top of best new courses in several na- tional golf publications. > CLICK HERE to visit Sand Valley. ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1
