Pinehurst Resort. Host to more major
golf championships than any other U.S.
club (in 2024 it will host its fourth U.S. Open
and it is the only course to host all five major
USGA championships), the North Carolina facil-
ity includes nine golf courses including the fa-
bled No. 2 designed by Donald Ross that
originally opened in 1907 and was remastered
by Coore & Crenshaw for the 2012 Men's and
Women's U.S. Opens. Modern designers such
as Jack Nicklaus, Rees Jones and Tom Fazio
also have contributed courses. Along with an
array of holes, Pinehurst, which once held the
Guinness World Record for largest golf resort in
the world, has three hotels, crowned by the
stately Carolina, eight dining options and a spa,
and a range of sports and leisure amenities.
