n The Long Beach Golf Festival
enters its 31st year, but its roots
go back nearly a century
T
here truly is nothing like it anywhere. And
for the past three decades golfers from
across Southern California and beyond have
benefitted from the vision of those responsible for
launching the Long Beach Golf Festival.
Now entering its 31st year, the Festival features
seven different championships played from April
24 through August 11, 2019. They are contested on
three of the city's top public courses – Skylinks, El
Dorado Park and Recreation Park – and pool the
resources and expertise of seasoned tournament
organizers to create what are considered some of
the best-run and most-beloved annual golf compe-
titions in the country.
"The fields are strong and the tournaments are
fun. I was 19 when I qualified to play in the Long
Beach Open, and it made me feel good about my
game," said Marcus Mercado-Kiel, the 2018 Match
Play champion. "The Festival helps grow the
game. You get players of all skill levels who want
