Member Bill Bray. "I categorize Charbon-
neau as a premium-plus executive golf
course. Don't be fooled by the shorter
length – golfers can still utilize all the
clubs in their bag. The course is great for
the beginner, but still challenges the low
handicapper."
Beauty is not in short supply at Char-
bonneau. The golf course is nestled in the
same lush green landscape and sur-
rounded by the ancient old-growth trees
that typify so much of golf in the region.
"Plus, each spring blossoming trees that
make for great photo opportunities sur-
round the ponds," Bensel said.
This ambience is just part of the attrac-
tion for former Board President and course
regular Dale Owen – along with the club's
brisk pace of play, family-friendly vibe and
quality course conditions.
"We have great greens, well-maintained
fairways and a very friendly staff," he
said. "The greenery, temperatures and
fresh air are also hard to beat."
Among the track's signature holes is the
263-yard, par-4 sixth on the Yellow, which
Owen calls the most beautiful on the golf
course.
The fifth and sixth holes on the Red
course both present great challenge, as do
the opening and closing holes on the
Green course.
Recently, the club received upgrades
that include a covered and heated warm-
up facility, a remodeled pro shop, re-
designed grounds around the practice
green and an outdoor wedding venue that
overlooks a large lake and the ninth hole
on the Green course.
Even with all this, the allure for Bensel
lies mostly with the people.
"It's the atmosphere in general," he
said. "Players who live at the course wel-
come the public players and include them
in their men's and women's club games."
The facility also has a relaxing, diverse
dining option: the Turn, which offers a
stellar breakfast sandwich before an early
round and a full deli selection afterward,
along with beer and cocktails.
Add it all together, and Charbonneau
has something for all golfers, Bensel said.
"Young, old or in-between, Charbon-
neau offers a fun golf experience that will
challenge experienced players while en-
couraging newer, younger golfers to con-
tinue playing the game," he said.
