E
ly Callaway was a man of
ample curiosity who realized
how crucial it is to being open
to new technological innova-
tions. He showed that during his first
two careers in his family's textile busi-
ness and as a winery owner, but it was
in the golf industry where he truly
flourished as he turned Callaway Golf
into one of the biggest players in the
world of equipment.
So, it's only fitting that the company
he founded in 1984 has christened its
latest technologically advanced product
after him: The ERC Soft golf ball, short
for Ely Reeves Callaway.
Incorporating the same appreciation
of high-tech materials and design that
helped Callaway explode onto the golf
market with products such as the Big
Bertha driver, the ERC Soft is being
touted as the best combination to date
of a ball that soars off the tee but also
allows for greater control, performance
and feel throughout the course.
"The ERC Soft golf ball is a tremen-
dous accomplishment for our team as it
brings an entirely new performance
category with a distance ball that will
also have spin and control," according
to Callaway Senior Vice President of
Research and Development Dr. Allan
Hocknell.
The ball's hybrid cover allows for
lower spin and accelerated ball speed
with metalwoods and irons, and pro-
vides a velvety-soft feel with more spin
and control around the greens.
The ERC Soft also expands Call-
away's two-part Dual Soft FastCore
technology, which it introduced last
year in the Chrome Soft ball.
And its patented Triple Track Tech-
nology uses three-color tracking lines
along the circumference of the ball,
resulting in better alignment.
