BOOK A tee tiMe instructiOn W atching Golf Channel or flipping through the pages of golf magazines can make it seem as if there's a quick fix for every flaw that might pop up in your game, with countless devices to help with tempo, swing plane, alignment, driving accuracy, putting efficiency and more. With so much information, it can be difficult to distinguish the good advice from the bad and the helpful training aids from those that will add more information to the already crowded space in your brain dedicated to golf. To sort it all out, we asked Classic Club's PGA Teaching Professional Jason Smith for insight on three of his favorite training aids. AlignMent sticKs These are among the least expensive training aids in the game, yet they can also be the most effective. Take them to the driving range and set up one a few inches outside your swing path, lining it up directly with your target. Then set down a second stick parallel to the first and closer to your feet, giving you a visual aid for lining up to the target. Alignment sticks help make sure that your feet, knees, hips and shoulders are parallel to the target line. Practicing with alignment sticks can help players learn what proper alignment feels like, thus minimizing one of the most common mistakes golfers make. u u u OrAnge Whip The Orange Whip has become one of the most ubiquitous training aids in the game – you've likely seen it in the bags of not only touring pros all over the world but in the hands of the guys in your regular Saturday foursome. And there's a reason it is so popular – it's effective. Swinging the Orange Whip before a round of golf is a great way to get your back and other big muscles loose, and it also helps tremendously with rhythm and tempo. While the original features a flexible drive-length shaft with a weighted orange ball in place of the club head, there are also models to simulate shots with irons, wedges and your putter. u u u Weighted cluBs Swinging a weighted club on a regular basis can help strengthen the golf muscles and improve swing speed and power. While these aren't made for hitting balls, they can be great tools to help golfers maximize their yardages with every club. ................................................................ > clicK here to learn more about Classic Club's professional golf instruction. helping hAnds Three training aids that can really help improve your game Alignment sticks are ideal for making sure you are headed in the right direction.
