SUMMER 2018
GROUND GAME
n LINKS-STYLE GOLF TAKES CENTER STAGE
I
t is an exciting time in the world of golf. The
Open Championship is right around the corner,
Tiger Woods is contending again at the highest
levels and, to paraphrase an old Motown
classic, summer's here and the time is
right for golfing on the links. (A little
corny, I know, but it kinda works.)
And when it comes to links golf,
there is no shortage of great tracks to
choose from around the globe. In fact, a
couple of classics are getting some extra
attention this summer with Shinnecock
Hills recently hosting the U.S. Open and Carnoustie
Golf Links getting ready for its closeup in July.
There also happens to be plenty of links golf fea-
tures packed inside this edition of OB Sports Golf
& Leisure. You can read about the reconstructed
Baylands Golf Links that reopened in Palo Alto. We'll
take you on a tour of the Pacific Northwest, home to
courses such as Gamble Sands and Tetherow – both
recognized as the epitome of links-style golf. And if
that's not enough, we've included some tips on how to
adapt your style of play to conquer a links-style layout.
I hope you enjoy the issue – and don't forget to put
a little work in on those bump-and-run shots.
