ACCESSORIES N o matter where you live or visit to play golf, the sum- mer months bring with them higher temperatures and the challenges of trying to stay cool and not let the hot weather negatively affect your game. We spoke to Rick Levy, Vice President of Operations for Worldwide Golf Shops, and got his take on some of the prod- ucts that can help keep you safe and manage the conditions – whether you're playing in Florida, Arizona or California this summer. • • • COOLING TOWELS If you haven't used these, you're missing out on a great way to keep cool on the course. Similar in size to a golf towel, you soak them in water, then hold each end and snap the towel to activate the cooling power. Mission Enduracool is the most popular model, and Misty Mate offers similar per- formance at a lower price. • • • WATER BOTTLES There's nothing more impor- tant when it's hot out than stay- ing hydrated, so put down the beer and fill an insulated bottle with ice and water. Thanks to the insulation, the ice won't melt and you can refill the bot- tle multiple times during your round. Quality brands in this category include Hydro Flask, CamelBak, YETI and Temper- craft. • • • BUCKET HATS When the sun is at its strong- est, a baseball cap sometimes isn't enough, so go with the extra protection of a bucket hat and keep your ears, face and neck fully shaded. Nike makes a good-looking solid-colored hat with UV protection, Call- away offers one that can also be used as a rain hat, and most of the other brands have similar products. If it's the Greg Nor- man look you're going for, there are plenty of options in straw hats as well. • • • SUN SLEEVES Long popular with cyclists for the protection they provide against the sun as well as the ease of quickly converting from sleeves to no sleeves, these are a great item for golfers as well. Many offer cooling qualities too, so channel your inner Michelle Wie and get your hands on a pair from Nike. • • • SUNSCREEN This should go without say- ing, but sunscreen is as essen- tial as having your putter in your bag. Whether you're look- ing for 15 SFP or 100, seeking a non-greasy lotion that won't drip in your eyes when you sweat, or searching for a for- mula suitable for sensitive skin, find the one that works for you and take five minutes before you tee off to apply it. ....................................................... > CLICK HERE to shop for sun-protection golf products.
