P
laying with Puddy isn't as pro-
saic as it may sound. From
March 1-4, the eighth-annual
Patrick Warburton Celebrity Golf
Tournament was held across various
locales in the Coachella Valley, with
host site Classic Club setting the stage
for another record-breaking year of
philanthropy.
Fronted by Warburton (best known
for playing Puddy on Seinfeld), the
four-day event of golf, dining, music
and parties raises monies and aware-
ness for St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital.
The highest-grossing golf tourna-
ment for St. Jude across the country,
this year's event raised a record
$2,522,000 for St. Jude, a mark which
surpassed the tournament's previous
record of $2.2 million raised in 2017.
In eight years of giving, the event
has raised more than $9.8 million for
St. Jude, with efforts and dollars
working to defeat childhood cancer
and other life-threatening diseases.
"It's a combination of our board,
our chairman Clark Rheney, and St.
Jude," said Greg Rubino, General
Manager at Classic Club and a board
member of The Warburton." Each
year we try to raise the level of what
we're doing, and we're able to do that
because we have great people in-
volved with this event, and also be-
cause we have more great people that
come out to support this."
With each foursome including a
celebrity participant, Classic Club co-
hosted golf on Saturday and Sunday
of the tournament, along with the
awards ceremony finale.
"And Sunday is special, because
that's when we reveal the amount of
money we've raised," added Rubino.
"The amount was a big deal for us,
because in today's environment with
all the unfortunate natural disasters
and things that happened in Califor-
nia, for us to be able to exceed last
year's total by over three hundred
thousand dollars was a big deal for
the charity."
Rubino further credits Classic
Club's ownership for playing annual
host to the gathering of celebrity, phi-
lanthropy and goodwill.
"Our owners, The H.N. & Frances
C. Berger Foundation, also deserve
so much thanks for allowing us to
host this event," Rubino said. "And
I'm so personally thankful to the
foundation for allowing me to have
the time to work on such a worth-
while cause."
The 2019 Warburton Celebrity Golf
Tournament will be held Feb. 28 –
March 3.
