BUTTONS ABOVE THE BALL A simple tip so you don't blade your chip! The blade, skull, skank, shank … whatever you call it, there's nothing more disheartening than setting up for a chip shot and then sending it across the green at light speed! One of the top reasons golfers do this is because of improper setup and ball position. Most amateur golfers tend to position the ball in the back of the stance, lean the shaft forward and try to trap or compress the ball without breaking their wrists or flipping the club head. These, my fellow golfers, are building blocks for potential disaster in most cases and here's the reason why. When you set up in that manner, you're positing your body so far in front of the ball that you are creating an immensely steep angle of attack (AOA). This fact alone greatly increases your chances for blading the shot. To make matters worse, most golfers end up flipping or scooping the club head as they try to add loft and help the ball into the air. In doing all of this, they've now just written a script where the leading edge of your club says, "Hello Top Half of the Ball! I love you and we're gonna go places really far and fast!" Don't get me wrong, there is a time for that type of set up like when you're in some thick cabbage around the green and your trying to keep the clubface from getting twisted in the grass. But for the majority of your chips here's a simple phrase I'd like for you to remember. What does that mean? - Watch this quick tip and then check your setup to see where your buttons line up!
