INSIDER Q&A F rom the time he was a high school kid who took up the game on a bet to his current position as the Vice President of Marketing at Carlsbad- based Cobra PUMA Golf, Jose Miraflor has paved his own way in the industry. We spent some time with Miraflor re- cently to learn a little more about what he does, along with his thoughts on hot topics affecting the world of golf. u u u How did you get into the golf indus- try? When I was 16, I had a bad knee from martial arts and it was recom- mended that I do a lot of walking. I started walking on a golf course with my dad, and he suggested that I start hitting balls. Then a buddy bet me $20 that I couldn't make the high school golf team, and that got me hooked on the game. In college, I had a job selling dress shirts, and I started teaching golf to some of my clients, quickly realizing that I was pretty good at it. I came to San Diego to go to the Golf Academy and became an assis- tant golf pro. But I have an affinity for clubs and wanted to be on the manufac- turing side. I worked at Titleist and Tay- lorMade before coming to Cobra in 2011. u u u What are some of the Cobra clubs you've most enjoyed working on? Of course I'm really excited about the F8 clubs right now. I still think one of the best drivers that we've ever made is the LTD. It's not very often you get to work with CASIS – the Center for Advance- ment of Science in Space – we studied a lot of what they do to develop the first zero CG driver in golf. The Fly-Z Plus driver was also a great one, with the weight that slides back and forth using a carbon fiber track system. COBRA PUMA GOLF .............................
