OUR STORY ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 ver.indd 1 12/1/1 GRAND CREATIONS John Failla has been building and remodeling WGS golf shops for 30 years T hirty years ago, John Failla began a relation- ship with The Golf Mart in San Diego that he never could have envisioned would have him still working three decades later with the com- pany that later became World- wide Golf Shops. An independent licensed contractor, Failla has built everything from front counters and club racks to putting greens and repair centers – as well as completed full store re- models and new builds – in WGS locations nationwide. "It has been a really good re- lationship," Failla said. "The regional managers and a lot of other people who I've worked with have become good friends. From the top on down, they treat people so well." Failla doesn't do it all on his own – while he's on-site at each project location, he hires and trains local contractors and oversees their work. He said Blake Morris, Jordan Mumford and Josh Maxwell have been particularly helpful in producing work that meets his high-quality standards. "John is a good man and re- ally knows how we like things done, so it's well worth it to us to bring him into any of our stores across the country and not only do the job well, but do it fast," said John Kopacz, the Vice President of Store Opera- tions for Worldwide Golf Shops, who estimates he has known Failla for 25 years. Having recently completed a remodel in Hartford, Con- necticut, Failla will turn his at- tention in the coming months to building new locations in Pompano Beach, Florida; Wal- nut Creek, California; and Southern California as well as a store remodel in St. George, Utah. "Sometimes we get so busy with projects that we wish we had two of him," Kopacz said with a laugh, adding that Worldwide Golf Shops is al- ways reinvesting in its stores because the company wants to continually improve the cus- tomer experience. "You want to stay fresh, and we perceive ourselves as a leader in the in- dustry." Failla has such consistent work with Worldwide Golf Shops – and dedicates a lot of time to coaching high school softball near his San Diego home – so he doesn't get out on the golf course much him- self. That's OK with him. "I'm a hacker," he joked. "I just don't play enough to be that good at it." From left, Josh Maxwell, Blake Morris and Jordan Mumford. John Failla. Works in progress.
