Goydos said he expects many
more victories after Cantlay's long-
delayed breakthrough season on
the PGA Tour.
"I played with him three weeks
ago. He's so much better than I
ever was, it's scary," said Goydos,
a five-time winner on PGA Tour
Champions and a two-time PGA
Tour winner. "I just don
't see a
limit.
He hits it far enough, he's a
great putter, and he's obviously in-
credibly strong mentally.
"Again, I couldn't imagine tak-
ing so many years off and even
making a cut in the first six months
on the PGA Tour, let alone making
the Tour Championship, because
it's just not that easy. The scores are
too good, the players are too good.
And then in his second event, he
loses in a playoff. And then
he fin-
ishes
third."
And then he wins his first PGA
Tour event, earning him a two-year
extension on tour and guaranteed
spots in the season-opening Sentry
Tournament of Champions at Ka-
palua, the 2018 Masters and 2018
PGA Championship. He also
moved up to fourth in the U.S.
Presidents Cup points standings
"Amazing," Goydos said. "And
I think he's going to be another cog
for Jim Furyk's Ryder Cup team (in
2018
), in my opinion."
Cantlay
started the 2017 season
ranked 1,866th in the Official
World Golf Rankings and he fin-
ished it No. 44. That's amazing,
too.
"If I look back to when I was sit-
ting on the couch at home, yeah,
I've come a long way," said Patrick
Cantlay, the Can't Miss Kid-
turned-Forgotten Phenom-turned-
Comeback Player of the Decade.
