n CALIFORNIAN WINS NEW MEXICO OPEN
T
yler Torano fired a brilliant final-round 65 to
capture the Sandia Resort & Casino New
Mexico Open in September. Torano finished
at 18-under par for the three-day tournament,
which was held for the second year at Sandia
Golf Club. Torano, who resides in Chula Vista,
Calif., entered the final round in a three-way tie
for the lead, and finished two shots ahead of
Nyasha Mauchaza and Daniel Miernicki to claim
the $14,000 winner's prize. Sandia, an OB Sports-
managed course in Albuquerque, is no stranger
to top events, having hosted tournaments rang-
ing from the Sun Country PGA Section champi-
onship to USGA qualifiers.

he annual Orange
County Amateur
brought some of Southern
California's top golfers to
Monarch Beach Golf Links
from Oct. 14-15, and
Bobby Kim emerged as
the best of the best. Kim
carded rounds of 72 and
70 over the two days to
edge Pachara Sakulyong
by two strokes. The
women's winner was
Stephanie Liu (157), while
the senior champion was
George Borst (163). Chase
Gioffredi (174) finished as
low junior. The event was
held at Monarch Beach for
the second straight year.
