The fitting process, Rehberg says, can lead to scoring improvements for a change as simple as recommending a ball with less spin to a player who often drives the ball wayward. Considered pioneers in the ball-fitting field, the Bridgestone system starts with the driver, and then ex- amines a golfer's entire game. According to Rehberg, getting fit for the proper ball can make a dramatic differ- ence for all levels of players, but perhaps even more so for the high-handicapper. And as many ball-fitting customers learn: paying top-shelf may not necessarily bear the best results for your game. "The highest-priced golf ball is not al- ways the best golf ball for you," Shandi says. "When we do a fitting, we've found that with maybe seven out of 10 players we'll find a better, more affordable ball for them that gives them more distance. Most people are surprised about that." Post-fitting, Shandi and staff will recommend two or three different types of ball, with varying price points. "For the open-minded consumer who is willing to try a different ball, about 80 percent of customers come back and tell us the ball change was for the better," Shandi said. Since debuting in 2015, the ball with the soccer-style design has in- creasingly scored in popularity. "The idea behind it was to allow the player to really focus on a spe- cific spot on the ball; especially, I find, with putting, which results in striking it with more consistency on the center of the putter face," says Paddy Wolfe, Callaway master fitter at the Roger Dunn Golf Shops Santa Ana Superstore. Offered in Callaway's low-spin Chrome Soft for feel, and the dis- tance-driven Chrome Soft X model, the success of the Truvis trend can be seen in enhanced pattern options. Originally released in a white and red design, a limited-edition white and pink ball for breast cancer awareness in support of The Morgan Pressel Foun- dation would soon follow. A yellow and black pattern ensued, which led to the release of the patriot-style ball, with red, white and blue design. Wolfe acknowledges that while traditionalists will continue to whack an all-white ball, loyalists of the Truvis look haven't gone back to a standard sphere. "There are players who just absolutely love the look of this ball and have never looked back," he says. Along with the benefit of enhancing focus on the ball itself, the popularity of Truvis can be found in assisting those askew of the fair- way, resulting in a pace-of-play measure that extends to less time hunt- ing and more time swinging.
