footJoy dna helix shoes light on your feet T he company that has long billed itself as the "No. 1 Shoe in Golf" has released a new-and-improved ver- sion of its DNA line, notably increasing the shoe's stability while decreasing its weight. A newly engineered stability chassis was designed with input from the com- pany's staff tour players, while comfort remains a priority with improved cushioning in the bed and collar. Early re- views rave about the Helix model's sturdiness on hilly ter- rain and uneven lies as well as its comfort, even when walking 18 holes. The high-end shoes come in three mod- ern and stylish color schemes, plus a fourth featuring a BOA closure system rather than traditional laces. "Every time FootJoy puts something out to the market, of course it's a very good product," said LaDawn Zitur, the shoe and bag buyer for Worldwide Golf Shops who is based at the Roger Dunn Santa Ana Superstore in South- ern California. "They just keep improving on their high- end shoes. It's lightweight and has a lot of other great qualities." shop here. Callaway steelhead xr fairway metals full of forgiveness I t has been nearly 20 years since the origi- nal Steelhead was released, and one of the most popular and iconic golf clubs in history gets a reboot that not only taps into nostalgia but adds some notable modern im- provements. With 3, 5, 7 and 9 woods in the line, as well as the 20.5-degree Heavenwood, a strong 3 wood (13.5 degrees) and a strong 4 wood (16 degrees), the Steelhead XR clubs feature a similar shape and look as the original, along with the familiar high launch and low spin combination. The updated version, however, is more forgiving with an improved Hawkeye sole as well as power-producing technology for added distance. To say the reception from golfers has been positive would be an understatement. "With Callaway going back to its older design, you get a lot of people who have played those clubs and did really well with them, so people are excited," said Russel Imamura, an assistant manager at The Golf Mart in San Diego. "They have some new technology in them, but with the classic look and a revamped style. The club we've sold the most is the 3 wood." shop here. srixon Q-star golf ball ready for launCh S rixon will unveil its redesigned Q-Star golf ball on August 18.
