knowledge of what's available will be important," said Eric
Barnett, a club fitter at the Roger Dunn Superstore in Santa
Ana, Calif. "From there, sizing is important. Some players can
buy clubs off the rack, but there are a lot of different sized
golfers, so most people should get fitted for length and lie."

know that every swing is a snowflake
Even though taller players are more likely to take a steep
swing and divot, sometimes shorter players do as well. That's
just one example of how no two swings are alike and why it's
so important to understand swing path and ball flight in addi-
tion to taking the standard physical measurements.
"Don't always go with what everyone else is buying," said
Lowell LeFors, a club-fitting specialist at The Golf Mart in
Encinitas, Calif. "One person may love a club, and the next
person may not feel confident with it. My goal is to get people
hitting the ball as straight and consistently as possible."

Gap your wedges appropriately
Knowing the loft on the wedges currently in your bag is the
first step to ensuring you purchase the short-game clubs that
will help you the most. If you're shopping for a new gap
wedge or sand wedge, make sure to get the gaps correct from
your pitching wedge down to your lob wedge.
"We generally know the loft on pitching wedges in various
sets from most of the manufacturers, and then we can give
customers the right gap wedge or sand wedge," said Richard
Majowicz, an Assistant Manager at Golfers' Warehouse in
Hartford, Conn. "If you're uncertain on the number, you
could be doubling up and hitting two very similar clubs or
leaving too big a space between the lofts and not allowing
yourself to hit shots certain distances."
