OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x SPRING 2017 x obsports.com l ON THE COURSE Casey Wade, Head Golf Professional at High Meadow Ranch, which has eight GolfBoards in its fleet and first sent them out on the course about six months ago. "We're one of two public courses in the Houston area that has GolfBoards, so we're getting a lot of people coming out who have never played our course just to use them." For the uninitiated, GolfBoards are an alternative to traditional golf cars that were first introduced three years ago, and are now in use at more than 200 golf courses worldwide, ac- cording to the com- pany's website. Golfers ride them like a surfboard, skateboard or snow- board, steering with their feet simply by leaning one way or the other. Your golf bag attaches to the front of the board, where there is also a handle for stability. They can be taken nearly anywhere on the course, and with var- ied terrain there's just as much fun to be had between shots as there is with a club in your hand. "Maybe the biggest factor for us in wanting to bring in the GolfBoards is that our area is really becoming a big adventure town," said Jeremy Hay- man, the General Manager at Sedona Golf Resort, which has eight boards and first offered them to guests in early March. "There are all kinds of outdoor adventure sports offered, and this is sort of an extension of that." Wade said the feedback has been unanimously positive. Some golfers have said they were able to converse with all their playing partners more than they would have using tradi- tional golf cars. A player at High Meadow Ranch with back problems recently shot his career low score rid- ing a GolfBoard, Wade said, because not having to sit down and stand up repeatedly kept him looser and feeling better throughout the round. Aside from those surprising bene- fits, golfers say rounds are signifi- cantly faster on GolfBoards – and a lot more enjoyable. "The whole point of playing golf is recreation," Hayman said. "Offering GolfBoards is just one more way to bring players to the game." VIDEO EXTRA! WATCH THE GOLFBOARD IN ACTION
