Due to its high altitude, the course closes the end of October and opens in April – but The Inn at Gamble Sands is open year-round. While Gamble Sands is located in a fairly remote part of the Pacific Northwest, Teth- erow is located directly to the west of Bend, Oregon, the fifth largest metropolitan area in the state, and a mecca of recreation. The course features a challenging layout that also incorporates the intrinsic natural splendor of the area. The 7,298-yard track, opened in 2008, offers sweeping views of the Cascade mountain range, and routinely makes lists of the top 100 public courses in the country. "Being a rugged, links-style course, you feel as if you're stepping into the pages of Golf in the Kingdom," says Vacation Homes Manager Jade Schneringer. "My favorite thing about the course is its transforma- tional energy. There is a special feeling one gets, particularly at dusk, when the deer join you on the fairways, and the red-tailed hawks frolic overhead in the wind currents. Another favorite element is the magical feeling you get when you step onto the first tee box. That first tee can be tricky, but then you're off on your way to a great time." Tetherow also offers superb accommoda- tions. Its vacation rentals, which opened in 2016, include five-bedroom, five-bath homes with hot tubs, fire pits, barbecues and patios or decks. The vacation rentals are located a few hundred yards from the first tee, and only minutes from downtown Bend and its shopping, sightseeing and craft beer tasting. The Tetherow Lodges, which opened in 2014, is a boutique hotel located about 20 minutes from Mt. Bache- lor, and across the street from the Deschutes National Forest, making it ideal for recre- ational opportunities, including snow in the winter and the Cascade Lakes in the summertime. The golf course is open from April until November, but like Gamble Sands, the re- sort is open year-round and serves as a base camp for all Central Oregon has to offer.
