M
ost any visit to the Bahamas is
wrapped up in superlatives, from the
amazing beaches to the mesmerizing
scenery. So, it's only fitting that Baha Mar's Royal
Blue Golf Club – the first Jack Nicklaus designed
Signature Course to open in Nassau – can be
summed up in one word:
"Spectacular," says Andy Deiro, head golf pro-
fessional at the course, which opened to the pub-
lic and resort guests in late April. Deiro describes
the layout as a tale of two nines. "The front offers
dramatic views of undulating fairways, rolling
white sand dunes, brackish ponds and glimpses
of a turquoise Atlantic Ocean that are everything
you would wish for, " he said. But it's the inward
holes that are even more remarkable.
"The back nine provides a very different look,"
Deiro said. "Golfers navigate stunning limestone
moonscapes through dense jungle and play
steeply downhill to the island green on the 16th
hole, which precariously borders Lake Cunning-
ham. Simply put, the inward half is anything but
typical of island golf – with greens protected by,
and tees perched upon, limestone outcroppings."
